Sue Weddle

Patient Relations/Activity Director

Sue Weddle has a passion for working with people and as the patient relations/activity director at Shelby Memorial Hospital, that passion is fulfilled every day. Sue has worked in the health care field for 20 years, starting in the mental health field as a case manager with 25 clients. In 1993, she began working as an activity director in a nursing home. When Sue can make someone smile, she feels like she has done her job. Being an activity director allows her to visit with patients on a casual basis, making it easier for patients to speak openly. She often offers material to take patient’s minds off their illness and she truly enjoys sharing leisure time with patients. Sue likes to think she is assisting in healing the mental side of an illness as well as the physical ailment.

Transitional Care (Swing Bed)

Swing bed nursing care (also known as transitional care) helps patients make the transition from acute care to other appropriate settings depending on the needs of the patient. As a viable alternative to temporary placement in a nursing home facility, many Swing Bed patients choose SMH after undergoing a procedure at a larger or tertiary care hospital. Swing Bed patients are in need of intensive, skilled care to make a successful recovery in order to return home.

Our skilled care services include physical, occupational and speech therapy, all available through the SMH Rehabilitative Services Department. Additionally, we provide continued administration of intravenous medicines.
